Hi, I’m looking for permanent crew to race with on Saturday afternoons.  Olympic standard an advantage but willingness to be reliable is a perfectly acceptable alternative!

Please contact me on my mobile or email me at graham.stone@portchesterbrewery.co.uk if you’re interested.

Cheers.

Is anyone planning to do this?  Mark and I are considering taking Unity but it would be nice if we had some company.  Any takers?

More info here:  http://www.classickeelboats.org/

Cheers,

Graham

Is anyone looking for accommodation for Cowes Week on their own?  I have the potential of a place near to the Island Sailing Club but need one or two extra person who doesn’t mind sharing.  If you are interested, do let me know and please indicate your budget too.

Cheers.

What is the best paint and varnish to use on a Victory?  How many coats do you use?

How many of you keep detailed records of, for example, the exact position of your mast, height of boom, shroud tension, distance from spreader to jib roach?

Would anyone be interested in sharing this information?

Here’s one for you nerds:  Where is it best to place ballast in a yacht:  In the middle or evenly at the extremes?

We would like to begin a registry of those willing to take on a new owner to the Class.  Here’s the problem…

As you will know, we are trying hard to sell new (and some old) boats.  Those new owners will need to get up to speed with what we do and how we do it pretty quickly.  The committee feel that the best way to do this is to allocate new owners an experienced buddy to take them through:

  • Setting the boat up
  • How’s who
  • Where to buy stuff
  • Where to find information

If you feel that you would like to get involved in this, please do drop me an email (via the Contact pages).  Your help would be really appreciated and you would be helping to prolong the active life of the Class.

Thanks.

The Class would like to get more people driving the committee boat.  One suggestion that came up at this evenings Committee meeting was that the OOD for the day (only Tuesday and Thursdays) was also the driver for the day.  This is how we got to this suggestion:  We are trying to encourage OODs to do starts from Haslar Wall.  Unless you take your own dinghy, you’ll often either need to be dropped off in Haslar or you’ll have to take Rosina anyway.

In order to become a driver, you’ll have to pass Geoff and Yola’s driving test - it’s tough but fair.  If you fancy doing this, please just contact me or any of the committee members.

What do you think?  Is this a good idea?  Have you any better suggestions?

Cheers,

Graham

As some of you will know, the Forum was hit badly last year by spam.  As a consequence, we’ve changed over to a BLOG instead.  This should be much more secure but will still allow us to discuss things important to the Class.

I have created account for everyone (at least I think I have).  You can browse the Blog without signing in:  However, if you wish to post messages, pass comments on messages or do anything better, you’ll need to log in with your user name and password:

  1. Username = initial letter of your first name and your surname e.g. dfreeman (note all lower case)
  2. Password = email address (you may change this once you’re logged-on).

If  you have trouble logging-on, please let me know and I will look into it.

Do let me know what you think and feel free to post what you like!
